Last Thursday, May 12, the President of the Board of Directors of Colegio Helvetia in Bogotá, Marcel Hofstetter, together with the Swiss Ambassador, Eric Mayoraz, presented the new project of Colegio Helvetia in Medellín to the Swiss community living in Antioquia. The objective is to come to Medellin to continue educating young people committed to the environment and with a high quality education that meets the educational standards of Switzerland and Colombia. We share the invitation of the Art area to Level III students to participate in the "Quarantine Diaries": a ten-day record on one of the following topics: Alteration of the space-time conception. Physical alteration of the places I inhabit. My body as a place, as a territory. Emotions and Quarantine. Looking outwards. Daily life and routine. The delivery date will be April 24. (This date may vary depending on the extent of the isolation). The works can be made in collaboration with their families. The selected works will be part of the virtual gallery [... ].
We invite students and families in grades 1-6 to reflect on the current situation, and to creatively shape their ideas". Instructions can be found in the TEAMS platform, under the Manual Work teams of each course. The closing date for the call will be 24 April.
In view of the situation that the country and the whole world is going through due to COVID-19, at Helvetia we are permanently attentive to the measures taken by both the Colombian and Swiss authorities. Due to this, the College has activated the "Helvetia at home" plan, which contemplates communication and remote work strategies, in the face of this event that forces the temporary closure of our facilities. We know that this is a critical moment for everyone and we are confident that together, strictly abiding by all the measures of the Colombian government, attentive to the official recommendations coming from Switzerland and implementing the plan [... ]
On Saturday 15th June, the school's social service outing with the children of the Plan Padrino of the Fundación SuizoColombiana was held to close the school's social service programme. 28 students from 10th and 11th accompanied their godchildren, 66 children from the San Carlos de Tibabuyes neighbourhood in Suba, to enjoy the attractions of the Salitre Mágico park. It was a wonderful day in which everyone shared and had fun together! Here are some of the moments:
On May 30 for the first time the event "Jugend Debattiert" took place at our school. It is a debate model (two students for, two against a controversial topic, students cannot choose sides) consisting of a dynamic competition first within the classes (this year 10A and 11A, 16 finalists were selected), then a final at school level, then a national final (with two finalists from Helvetia, Colegio Andino, Colegio Alemán de Medellín and Gimnasio von Schiller) and then an international final (participation from Peru, Chile, Argentina, Argentina and Chile).
On May 23rd, the "round table" on the Linguistic Statistics, a new dynamic with which the Coordination of the Stay (in charge of Professor Jose Lugo) and the School Support Unit (through the School psychologist Frank Marenco), seek to help 9th grade students to prepare for their stay next school year, with the testimonies and answers to questions from 10th grade students who returned this year from France or Germany, took place in the students' dining room. From May 8 to 10, Helvetia's big musical event took place: La Noche de los Artistas (The Night of the Artists). Students from Level I, Level II and Level III demonstrated in three nights the enormous musical talent that exists at the school. This year's event commemorated Helvetia's 70th anniversary. Helvetia's great musical event is back, this time to celebrate the 70th anniversary of our school. This Wednesday, May 8 in two concerts for Level I, Thursday, May 9 with two concerts for Level II and on Friday, May 10 the turn will be for Level III with a single session at 7 pm. Echoing the Earth Day celebrated around the world on April 22, in our school in Playgroup and Kindergarten, playful and artistic activities were carried out in order to sensitize the youngest children and through them the whole community, in the care of the environment. Shadow theater and games animated by the District Secretary of the Environment, focused on the importance of water and recycling, while the handicrafts directed by the teachers highlighted the importance of trees and left in a beautiful way [ ...]
